Albums on Repeat- 6-10-15

Hey ya'll.....instead of trying to make up for lost time, I'm just gong to pretend it was never lost and write as if I never stopped.  K? K.

But first, can we just take a second and bow to the Thrift Store Gods for sending me this perfect condition fully functional record player from 1963 from Good will last week?! GAH!

Sigh. Alright, moving on.

Finally have some time on my hands where I can drive around or sit around at home and listen to full albums again and my heart just fills fuller! Here are a few FULL albums that are worth a gander:

Brandon Flowers- The Desired Effect

Well well well.....look who is Killin' it? Get it?! Har har har.  Killers frontman seems to have been hanging out with Bruce Springsteen ( Listen to Dreams Come True, Between Me and You) , Peter Gabriel (Listen to Can't Deny My Love,Diggin' Up The Heart, Never Get You Right) and Talking Heads ( Still Want You) a lot, or at least you would think so by listening to his latest album. With his track record he has proven his hand is on the pulse of playing with nostalgic 80's heartstrings and yet new pop ballads that well leave their mark on this generation.

Tan Lines- Highlights

Wanna have a dance party? BBQ pool party? Pre-game saturday night getting ready party? These are your guys. I still remember dancing to them in a tent at Coachella 2012 in 112 degree weather  and not caring if I passed out. The struggle was real. That's what they do to me. Just get me giddy and pumped! Their last album, Mixed Emotions, made my top 10 list  a few years ago and since its half way through the year, I think its a good possibility this one will do the same thing. This album screams summer vibes. Just dive in already.

Wolf Alice

Changing up the vibe a bit. Not only does this Grungy 90's alt rock band have the most bad ass lady lead singer (Ellie Rosewell) since Garbage and Hole, they will make you want to go find your plaid everything, doc martens and pierce your eyebrow/bellybutton/tongue all over again. I also hear influences of the Smashing Pumpkins and The Breeders and god damn, I'm just digging it so hard. COME ON FULL LP! I WANT IT!
Faves in order: Moaning Lisa Smile/ Bros/ Blush/She/ Giant Peach

T.T.T 8-26-14

These amazing 16 year olds....I tell ya. I posted an album a few months back that had Grace Mitchell's first single, a cover of Man Eater on The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Now she has two singles on Sound Cloud and I love them both too much to only post one of them. I have a girl crush on her hair, her synth love lorn pop music and the awesomeness that will occur as this girl blows up the indie scene within a few months...Wait for it!

I love it when favorite things connect....speaking of Walter Mitty and the band who basically did half the soundtrack....

I get major high it when you can call something and end up being right about it. I was sent this album by a friend and within the first minute I knew that Frightened Rabbit was involved somehow....the voice was just too distinctive. And sure enough, with a little research today I found that it was definitely frontman, Scott Hutchinson's solo project. Awesome. Every inch of it. My favorite song so far is Los Angeles, Be Kind. Could be cause I live here, could be that he sums up peoples relationship with Los Angeles pretty damn well. I feel like this album will be played quite a bit when I'm roadtripping the pacific northwest in a few weeks. Just fits that atmosphere and mood.

I minute I hear this album I started it over and played it again. Then again. I think I'm on loop 6 at this point....Not only does he give me that nostalgic gritty feeling I get like when I listen to Lucero, or the Alabama Shakes ( which makes sense cause his album had the same producer) but he's not hard on eyes whatsoever.

Hello Handsome!

If you are headed on a trip this weekend, play this guy. It will fit your drive.

HAIM feat A$AP Ferg- My Song 5 with guest appearances by 'SNL"s Vanessa Bayer, Grimes, Ke$ha....oh wait I mean Kesha...apparently she dropped the $ sign....which is cool cause there's already one person with $ in their name for this video anyway...Artemis Pebdani from "It's Always Sunny....", Vampire Weekend frontman, Ezra Koening....How can this NOT be my video of the week?

GUYS. This is the hottest thing I have ever seen. If I take up roller skating, will my body look like that? Dang. I have not seen a sexier video, maybe ever. It is hypnotizing. And the song is sultry as hell. have some ice water near by to cool yourself off with after watching this more than once, cause you will....

Happy Labor day

Take Cover: Summer Camp AND Dana Buoy/ Fleetwood Mac= Everywhere

Today I have two covers of my 2nd favorite song of all time. Seems appropriate. Fleetwood Mac grew on me over the years, I think you have to have some serious breakups and life experiences to really appreciate how good their songs really are. The one 'm posting today may not be the most popular Fleetwood Mac song, but out of all of their songs, the first time I time I heard this, I was hooked and it became a personal anthem and instant happy song for the rest of time. Summer Camp was the first group I've heard to cover it in recent years and it made me heart ache it was so good. They filmed it 2 years ago for Mulberry's "Sound of Love" for Valentine's Day and the instant I heart it, it became the best thing to happen to me on Valentines Day in YEARS. (Kinda joking...but not really) I have tried to find downloadable version of this, but have yet to find it. Their band started as a fun joke and now has turned into an awesome career for them. This duo write great songs about longing and that youthful lust that reminds you of teenage poetry from the 80's and 90's but you love it and relate to it anyway.  So this is a perfect song for them to cover and its so just SO. DAMN. PURRTY.  Also, how cute is it that they are married in real life? Cute as hell, right? AWWWWWW

The second cover is more recent, as in I heard it this week and it made my morning so happy today that I thought I should make a post about it to make everyone perky on Friday afternoon. Dana Buoy's new album just dropped July 22nd ( Just listened to the whole thing today. Totally good) and he's touring with Slyvan Esso for the rest of the year so keep an eye out!

Feels good to post a cover again, it's been a hot second....or um longer.
Happy Friday!

Monthly Mixes: Larkspur ( July)

I feel spoiled this month, you guys. Not only did great singles ( Banks, The Drums, Alt-J) drop this month, but I found myself listening to multiple full albums that I just put on repeat cause every song was just awesome, which is not mostly the case for me, I'm a singles girl at heart. So if you like what you hear on this play list, I recommend checking out the full albums of Lola Wolf ( Zoe Kravitz band), La Roux, Bleachers, and my beloved Jenny Lewis.

I was telling my friend the other day how she has seemed to find the perfect balance of being famous, She's was a child actress, strayed from that and has a great reputation of singing and putting out great albums. She's almost a house hold name to the younger generation, but can totally go out and not get mobbed by the paparazzi. Every girl I know has a lady boner for her and not only does she have enough pull to get Brie Larson, Anne Hathaway and Kristen Stewart in her new music video, most guys will admit they listen to her music and thinks she's a classic babe. She nailed it.

Even though she isn't on Spotify yet, you should really check out Ryn Weaver, because this girl is about to blow up all over the place. Trust me. After you listen to her two singles Octahate and Promises, you will see why.

Monthly Mix: Rose (June)

This month was poppy. I'll admit it. But with the beginning of summer it seems it fit perfectly to burst through the month with danceable light hearted numbers to be the soundtrack to the beginning of that summer romance. Which seems fitting considering the month's birth flower is none other than the rose! If that romance be with a person or the season itself.
I do think that Anna of the North is the highlight gem of this month. I adore the wonder in her voice and her songs. Also Jena Malone is in a band, Shoes, ( who knew before this month?) and her new album is simple, slightly awkward, and poetic.... and I kinda love it. I would have loved it even more if I was still in creative writing in college. I know that Iggy and Ariana are all over the TOP 10 these days, but I allow myself to dive in to those pop culture obsessions too, plus, I think they are kinda up on those charts for a reason. Allow yourself to indulge with this mix....but if you don't want to embarrass yourself, you can just keep the car windows rolled up and set your Spotify to "private session". That's what I do sometimes when I keep listening to too much Taylor Swift in a row. ;). There I admitted it.

Monthly Mixes: Lily of the Valley (May)

K. Hands down the best month for music has been May. It's half way through the year and feel like I can confidently say that. Chromeo, Sylvan Esso, Tune Yards, Lykke Li, and this band The Bamboos which will totally make my top ten list of albums at the end of the year, ALL released albums this month and it was GLORIOUS and thats only part of it! There are 44 tracks this month.....phew! See? Sorry it's late but this is definitely my favorite mix of the year thus far. Bask in it my pretties!

xo,

psssst. If you click the little Spotify button under my photo on the upper right you can follow me on Spotify, so you never miss a playlist! AMAZEBALLS!

Home Sweet Home - DIY Gold Sharpie Wall Paper (Via Vintage Revivals)

Since my latest gig ended I finally have time to have what I call a "nesting phase". That new feeling when you move into a new place and want to make it home with a ton of little projects. In the past few months while researching furniture for our place I finally found a girl who speaks my language: Mandi from Vintage Revivals. My Pinterest boards started filling up with all her amazing ideas and ways I could make them our own. The one I'm listing below, I followed this step by step from the link below and it turned fantastic :

Next are just my Before and Afters....everyone loves those. :)

BEFORE: The color of our place isn't awful.....It's a nice neutral. but we have a lower level apartment and we wanted to make sure to have as much as light as possible. Lighter paint definitely helps that. You can see my paint samples on the wall. The left is BEHR Silver Drop, and BEHR Swiss Coffee. I decided that as much as I LOVE light grays, if I was adding gold on top of this I thought it would just look like the wall was dirty, which ......so I went with the Swiss Coffee White.

Progress, I did the lazy ass painter thing and just put everything in the middle of the room and painted around it. Almost broke a few wine glasses with the roller on the long pole, but they survived! Ahem, ignore the other things that make it messy!

AHHHHHHH! That's better! Already lighter! Next up, "Wall Paper"

The painting took one day from start to finish and the stencil/paint pen wall paper took the next day to complete. With the painting and the paint pens the whole thing cost me under 70ish bucks and makes it pop! I think it really gives our dining room some character and definitely a ton more light, you can tell from the living room walls on the sides.

Damn right thats a Bed Bath and Beyond coupon over there! I am stocking up on those! And thats our cute little bar that Wes got for free on a set. SCORE!

I am still in need a few things in here to liven it up: Plants, two more chairs for the the other side of the table, possibly a different light fixture. Maybe one piece of art for the wall in the middle? I've loved having our meals in there together and spend my day drinking coffee and blogging from the table. BUT this was so easy and rewarding to do. I still have more paint pens....hmmmmmmm what next?
